drat I pressed the wrong key and never finished the survey
Drat, me too.
I started to listen to you what seems like 10 years ago. I’ve learned so many great things from listening to your podcast over the years and I am
Incredibly greatful for that. However, lately it seems this show has become a venue to showcase political views. Maybe I pick up on the nuances because I have been listening so long, but it’s painful to hear. The last few episodes I’ve had to turn off, unfortunately.
With confirmation bias and selection bias and “getting published” bias being uncovered as common place in the world of science. Simply stating the argument “it’s science” just doesn’t cut it. Take both sides, empathize, show humility. You’re shit definitely stinks. Sciences shit definitely stinks. There is shit everywhere.
Hi Matt, thank you for listening to us for such a long time. We do appreciate your ears, and it hurts to know that we are turning you off of listening. However, each episode is full of different stories and topics, so turning us off seems a bit extreme when you could simply fast-forward to the next story.
We don’t talk policy all the time, but it is a very important part of the science story. And, I think that whether or not you like what we are saying or agree with what we are saying, we are giving you a full view of how science and policy are interacting in this particular place and time. Scientists are very concerned at the moment.
Also, I agree that seeing things from as many angles as possible is a very important part of telling the full story and having a well-rounded discussion. We bring up stories about retractions, publication pressures, and other forces at work in the institution of science all the time, so that people might gain more insight into the process of science. And, while I know that each of the hosts has our own way of presenting ideas, I do my best to empathize. BUT, sometimes the “other side” isn’t supported by evidence. I will not give equal credence to ideas without supporting evidence. This is a science podcast. We go where the evidence leads, and hope you will continue to journey with us.
Kiki,
Do you remember talking with Leo, and demonstrating an Oobleck on the set of ‘Call for Help’?
I enjoyed watching you then, and still do today. I work in noisy environments,so when I’m there, I listen to one of your podcasts by using earbuds inside the hearing protection we are required to wear. Don’t be too concerned about someone who’s only been watching for 10 years…
Looks like you are having fun at the Young Innovators fair!
Keep it up! (Hi Blair, Hi Justin!)
Of course I remember! That was a fun trip to Canada. Thank you for continuing to enjoy TWIS. And, yes, the Young Innovators Fair was exceptional.
