I hope Jason has fully recovered from his bout with food poisoning. I had contracted a severe case of salmonella poisoning some years ago from eating improperly-prepared chicken. All these years later, the smell of chicken or eggs make me nauseous. Perhaps this could lead to a discussion about our sense of smell. Robert.
26:26 The null hypothesis … is a null version of whatever your hypothesis is.
I’m unsatisfied with this definition.
The null hypothesis has one important feature: FALSIFIABILITY!
It is NOT a distinction without a difference.
The distinction is falsifiability, and the difference lies in how evidence is interpreted.
30:12 It’s agenda… It’s not going to effect the science that’s being done…
You haven’t understood Trenberth’s point.
Yes, selection of the proper null hypothesis is a matter of agenda.
Actually, agenda does have an effect on the science that’s being done.
Choosing a poor null hypothesis increases the risk of Type II errors.
This is the act of erroneously accepting an incorrect null hypothesis.
See figure 2 in Trenberth’s paper.
31:46 There’s not going to be any abandonment of hypothesis testing, that’s not gonna happen.
I know, right? Curry’s paper was incomprehensible to me.
47:08 Is one direction towards the center of the universe, like, big bang style?
Once again, Justin, the universe has no center!!! Will you ever learn???

47:28 Do we have to go back to the drawing board?
47:43 The physicist takes the white-board eraser and erases the whole thing.
You treat the John Webb paper like a result in search of a radical new theory.
On the contrary, a varying fine structure constant is a long-time prediction of theory in search of a result:

wheres the new episodes?!?!?!? ahhhhhhhhhh! No TWIS…. its like division by zero, its just no good.
After all the lies and false claims climatologists have made, it’s hardly surprising their credibility has disappeared down the toilet. This has become a type of quack science. Why? Because it has become heavily involved in politics. It’s like going back to the 16th century where science again was involved with politics and religion, coming up with stupid theories. Thank god for Copernicus, even though many scientists of the time laughed at him.
